The Negro League Championship Series Player Cards

Negro League Championship Series Teams

The Negro league Teams that I have been playing in the Negro League Championship series are now avalabe for download for free by clicking on the link below. This ZIP file contains three specific subfiles that include player cards that are compatible for both 2nd and 3rd Edition Statis-Pro Baseball rules. I have also included a set of cards for my Pro-Stat d8 rule set which will eventually be posted for free on this blog as well. The following teams are included in these files as well as generic pitching batting cards for each variation.

1924 Kansas City Monarchs (1924 World Champions: 57 - 22)

1925 Hilldale Club Daisies (1925 World Champions: 53 - 18 -1)

1926 Chicago American Giants (1926 World Champions: 57 - 24 -3)

1928 St. Louis Stars (1928 NNL Champions: 63 - 26)

1935 Pittsburgh Crawfords (1935 NNL II Champions: 51 - 27 -3)

1944 Homestead Grays (1944 World Champions: 48 - 24- 3)

1946 Newark Eagles (1946 World Champions: 51 - 21 -2)

1948 Birmingham Black Barons (1948 NNL Champions: 61 - 27 -1)

Creating Strike out Results

If you have ever looked at the Negro League statistics, you will note that for the most part, strikeout result are either incomplete or not listed. This of course is a problem if you want to play a game with any Negro League team. This meant that I had to create a specific formula to accurately reflect the number a strikeouts that a Negro League player may have in a particular season; and that is exactly what I did.

I went through the Seamheads Negro League, Baseball Reference, and Retrosheet databases comparing players and then looking at their contemporaries in Major League Baseball (MLB) and developed a specific formula to determine the specific number of strikeouts the player would produce. Is this rating system 100% accurate, no, but it is close and it is easily reproducible. All Negro League players in these card sets had their strikeout range created this way so that it is if nothing else consistent throughout the cards produced.

2nd Edition d8 Cards

You will notice that these cards have the same layout as the original 3rd edition Statis-Pro cards. With the BD rating on the bottom of the card. The BD rating on the bottom of these cards is the same as the chart from the 2nd edition ruleset listed on the gameboard. As these cards have the BD results printed on the bottom of the cards, their BD rating is not listed on the individual card as it is not needed. Other than that the cards are 100% 2nd edition cards.

3rd Edition d8 Cards

No changes here, these cards are 100% 3rd edition compatible cards.

Pro-Stat Baseball d8 Cards

I have included these cards just because I created them, and it will give you an idea of how Pro-Stat d8 baseball differs slightly from Statis-Pro. There are a couple of small things that are different.

  1. The CD range has been expanded to 1 to 5 for all players.

  2. The Hit & Run (H&R) number has been changed from 0 to 2, to 1 to 3. Nothing has changed in the way the payers are rated, I just hate having ‘0’ results on my cards if it is unavoidable. So if you use the Pro-Stat cards to play with the Statis-Pro ruleset, then players with a H&R: 1 = 0, 2 = 1, and 3 = 2.

  3. An ‘A+’ rating has been added to players who were superior base runners and or superior base stealers.

  4. Individual Fly Out and Ground Out ratings listed on the player cards. The biggest change is the inclusion of individual fly and ground out results on the pitcher and batter cards. Now instead of just having an ‘Out’ range, the results come straight from the player cards. While the out results on the ‘Fast Action Card’ (FAC) deck included results in approximately a 50 - 50 ground to fly out ratio. I have created a specific formula based on the player's individual performance to determine whether he is more likely to hit into a ground or fly out.

In Conclusion

I hope you will find these Negro league Championship Series teams and enjoyable part of your playing experience. As always, I am not perfect and attempt to proofread every card I make and rules and ruleset I produce, but in the end I am only human. If you find an error, send me an email at prostatbaseball@gmail.com and I will get to it as soon as I possibly can, but like most of you I have a full time job and a family, so I apologize ahead of time as I cannot always answer my emails everyday. Now Get out there and ‘Play Ball!!!’
