Condensed Statis Pro / Pro-Stat Out Charts

Having to flip through the red, yellow, and blue out charts that came with the Statis Pro baseball was always a pain in the backside. Over the years I combined and condensed the original out charts to make them easier to manage and speed up game play. The biggest thing I wanted to do is make them easy to read and not bog the player down with lots of abbreviations as many of the condensed out charts produced by other fans seem to do.

The result is that the charts are easy to read, and all the necessary information from the original charts is included with two small changes or additions. In the original charts some ‘GX#’ and ‘GA#’ results simply state that the batter is safe, and a specific base runner is thrown out. Unfortunately, the original Statis Pro rules leave no instruction on how to score the play. For Example, with no outs, and men on 1st and 2nd base, the batter hits into a ‘GX2’. The original out charts indicate:

Men on 1st and 2nd

GX2: Force out at 3rd, catcher to 3rd, batter safe, runner on 1st to 2nd.

When it comes to the batter, the play should be scored as a fielder’s choice (FC) rather than a ‘GX2’. Yes, the lead runner is forced out (2 - 5), however the ‘FC’ notation in the scoresheet indicates that the batter was indeed safe at 1st, but not because of an infield single or other play, but because the catcher chose to throw out the lead runner at 2nd base rather than throwing out the batter at 1st. In the runner's box that was thrown out you would record (2 - 5) with a 1 circled to indicate the first out of the inning. My condensed chart results  for the same play are as follows:

Men on 1st and 2nd

GX2: Lead runner thrown out at 3rd, batter safe (FC), runner on 1st to 2nd.

I realize this is a small thing, but it does allow you to go back through your old score sheets and actually figure out how the play evolved, which may make a difference if the batter who was safe on a fielder’s choice (FC) later scores a run in the inning. A small change, but one that I thought was necessary.

One other small change I made relates to line drive outs. In the original out charts, depending on the number and position of base runners, there is always the possibility that a line drive out could result in a double play if the fielder that caught the line drive was rated CD: 2. In the original charts this possible result varied depending on the number of runners on base and the fielder involved in the play. In my charts, anytime there is a line drive out result and there are runners on base, roll 1d6, a result of ‘6’ indicates that a double play may have occurred depending on the fielders CD rating. If the fielder that caught the line drive is rated CD: 2, the lead runner is thrown out for a double play. If the fielder is rated CD: 0, or 1, simply ignore the result as no double play is possible.

These charts were originally created for my dice version of Statis Pro baseball (Statis Pro Baseball d8) which eventually merged into what I now call Pro-Stat Baseball d8 and my percentile version known as Pro-Stat d10. You will find the link for my condensed Statis Pro baseball compatible charts below. They are of course free of charge to use, and can be readily shared as part of the Creative Commons license. You will also find that there is a link for the Pro-Stat Baseball d8 & d10 out charts. If you are curious as to the differences in the two. Now, get out there and "PLAY BALL!"
